Year Level Coordinators’ Message

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

This year we have had many new students joining our Sirius College family. We say a hearty welcome to all the new students and their families across the year levels. Joining a new school can be sometimes tough for students. It is normal to feel nervous as you step into a new environment. Our college is very welcoming, but if you feel you need extra assistance in settling in to the school you can ask for help from our Counsellor or from your Year Level Coordinator.

This Term has flown past so quickly. It has been an interesting and fun filled busy time with the many learning opportunities and experiences. Along with new families and students, we have new staff at our school, and they have been given a warm welcome to the school community.

During Term 1, our students have experienced some wonderful excursions and other events such as an anti-bullying incursion, interschool sports, the moonlight cinema family evening, and the opportunities of raising money for school resources and the Royal Children’s Hospital.

This year we introduced the Coordinators’ Program for each home group class. This program is designed to help students stay closely connected to their campus, and to assist students with any matters with which they may need help - such as how to use their diary effectively and how to manage their workload. Coordinators also use the program to update students about upcoming events, policies, procedures or any issues that arise from time-to-time. Here is a photo of classes 7A & 7C during one of the Coordinators’ Program sessions.

We would like to mention a few important points for parents and students to consider. Lateness to school on a regular basis has a negative effect on a student’s learning; especially, when they are missing the same subject regularly. We strongly recommend that children be at school in time for them to be at their lockers by 8:45 am. Period 1 begins just five minutes later, at 8:50 am sharp every day.

We wish everyone great success for the rest of the year. Have a restful Term break.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Sebnem Golbasi and Mr Adrian Verga
